Rhododendron Festival Functions and Volunteer Opportunities

The Rhododendron Festival Board is an all volunteer Board.  Board meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month at the Seaport Landing’s Activities Room. The public is always invited to attend.  The Annual Board meeting, where elections are held and the theme for the next year is chosen, is held during the September meeting.

Royalty Committee

This committee is involved with the candidates from the beginning application through the end of their reign.  The application process begins in November and the last parade is usually in October of the following year.

Some examples of this committee’s duty include: providing instruction and mentoring for the candidates, setting up speaking engagements, organize and host a coronation ceremony, arrange for travel to other parades and accompany the royalty to the other parades and appearances.

Float Committee

This committee not only decorates the float, but maintains  the trailer and truck also.  This committee works with the Royalty committee and provides drivers and walkers for the float in parades.

Grand Parade Committee

This committee requires the greatest number of volunteers every year before, during, and after the parade.  Estimated volunteers needed are around 60. Committee Duties include, but are not limited to: inviting dignitaries and participants; arranging for street closures; providing announcer/stand and bleachers, judging before and during parade, parade marshalls, check-in booth, uptown information booth, backfield (directors of lineup), dispersal crew, posting parade line numbers (usually done Thursday late afternoon), sat. morning setup and after parade cleanup crews .

Weekly Events Committee

This committee works with the Weekly Events Chair’s and the weekly event Sponsors and provides help and assistance where needed for the weekly events.  They also do the ordering for ribbons for all weekly events.

Fundraising Committee

This committee organizes and provides fundraisers for the Association.  They also gather sponsorships for the Rhododendron Festival.  New ideas are always welcomed and thinking outside of the box is encouraged!

The latest fundraising efforts include the Hilltop Tavern providing Barstool Bingo during the month of April and the CO-ED Softball Superdraft Tournament which has been held in August.
